Programs

On this page, those who are interested can take part in the permanent and occasional programs of Țara Bârsei/Barcaság. The page is continuously updated. Firstly you can find the events of the 10 main traditionalist csango village and also some other programs which are helping the subsistence of the csango traditions.
By activities we would like to acquaint the beauties, traditions, naturalism and variegation of the Barcasag. You can acquaint this place through handcrafting, hiking, cycling, going to sweeping flight, going skiing or trying snowboard or simply by a walk or a delicious dinner. Come and visit us. We are waiting.

Programs

Eastern egg decoration night

A branch of Csango popular art is the decoration of eggs. Everybody can tried and learn to decorate eggs on Good Friday. Supplies (wax, writing tools, paint) are provided by the organizers. Cooked or drenched eggs must be brought by everyone. Starts at 4 pm until the last person (over night program).

St. Michael’s Festival

St. Michael's Day is a traditional festival of the csángó's, where you can enjoy and get insights of the traditions and customs of the local Hungarians. It'a a two day experience, but the a highly of the event is on the last day, on Sunday (traditionally on the last Sunday of September).

The rooster shooting

Rooster shooting – a tradition of Barcaság (Țara Bârsei) – remained alive today only at Apáca (Apața). On Easter Sunday, it is worth visiting Apáca to become part of a living tradition. According to legend, during the Tatars invasion: " ... They were gathering the tents, carrying the heavy chests, preparing the horses and then – in the dim light of the dawn, which came through the thick clouds – the rooster sang. Its piercing sound split the darkness again and again. It came from the rushes. Stand to! – sounded the order and the redoubtable army set out to the hiding place. Only when they got closer, the Black Fortress appeared from the shadow, hiding in the bush. The rooster’s betrayal was followed by a wild siege and bloodshed and only a few inhabitants of the village survived. ... " What happened after that? Visit Apáca (Apața) on Easter Sunday and experience the continuation of the legend. More information:

Carnival burial in Apața

It is worth visiting Apața at the end of the Carnival period and take part at the "funeral" ceremony of winter and entry into the fast before Easter. You will have a warm welcome with fresh donuts and local palinka.
